Pirate’s Cove Billfish Tournament: A Week in the Outer Banks with The Wild Blue Films
This past August, The Wild Blue Films set course for one of the most iconic tournaments on the East Coast — the Pirate’s Cove Billfish Tournament in Manteo, North Carolina. Situated right in the heart of the Outer Banks, this event draws anglers, captains, and crews from all over, all chasing the thrill of landing the next great catch.
For an entire week, our team was on the ground (and in the air) capturing every angle of the action. From professional photography to cinematic video production to sweeping drone footage, we worked to bring the story of this legendary tournament to life. The docks buzzed with energy each morning as boats headed offshore under first light, and that excitement carried through the evenings when crowds gathered around the scales to see what the day had brought in.
This year did not disappoint. We witnessed some unforgettable moments — especially when not one, but three giant blue marlin came to the scales, sparking cheers from spectators and competitors alike. Each fish told its own story of endurance, skill, and the spirit of offshore sportfishing.
Beyond the action on the water, this tournament gave us the chance to connect with the incredible community that surrounds Pirate’s Cove.
